Moon surface geometry and normal maps procedural created in Houdini, based on photos from NASA.
Generating a surface that large required to slice it in order to be brought in Unreal. Since the geometry is too heavy to be calculated as a single piece, each patches has to predict the correct edges to connect properly to its neighbors.
Extra data was also exported directly on UV channels and vertex color to control looks of craters, rocks, and finer details separately.
